Rural Spinal Cord Injury Coordinator
Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital

About the role:
As the Rural Spinal Cord Injury Coordinator (RSCIC) you will provide advanced clinical expertise and practice in clinical care provision and service development for people requiring specialist treatment. This will include providing advice and guidance at a district strategic level on clinical service planning, delivery development, practice and redesign in addition to undertaking supervisory, management and educative roles where required. You will provide rural spinal outreach support to residents who have a spinal cord injury as well as to the clinicians and service providers involved in their care, who are located within the Hunter New England Local Health District. Your role will comprise client care coordination and management, support of the state SCI service clinic outreach model, the facilitation of education and support to clinicians in the regional area.

In this role you will be line managed by the service manager of the New England Brain Injury and Spinal Cord Injury Service and clinically/professionally managed by the Rural Spinal Cord Injury service manager for the Spinal Outreach Service. You will join the Peer Support Network that constitutes all rural SCI coordinators in the state which meet periodically throughout the year and have the opportunity to join the OT/SCI interest group. You will receive an intensive orientation to the position from the Rural Spinal Cord Injury service manager for the Spinal Outreach Service and will be supported to participate in appropriate training opportunities

Where you’ll be working:
The RSCIC position is a stand-alone position that sits within the New England Brain Injury and Spinal Cord Injury Service. This service is located on the grounds of the Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital.

Tamworth Hospital is one of the New England’s largest regional hospitals, recently refurbished to boast brand new, state of the art facilities. Tamworth Hospital is a major Rural Referral Hospital providing services to the North-West area of NSW. Tamworth, with a population of 60,000 is a modern progressive city set in a picturesque backdrop of tree covered mountains. About you:
Our successful applicant will be an independent and highly organised person to manage a fluctuating case load across a large geographical area. You will have the ability to travel reasonable distances (up to 6 hours maximum per day) in order to access people in their local communities and will be an effective communicator across the board, from client’s, their family, service providers, specialist medical professionals and clinicians. You are a collaborative person that links a client across their discharge plan (from metropolitan hospitals to rural hospitals) and have the ability to act as a strong and proactive advocate for people with a SCI. You are also an effective time manager to submit timely reports and data to the Spinal Cord Injury Service and have strong skills specific to spinal cord injury management across the continuum of injury progression.

Job share/ Part Time arrangements will be considered. An eligibility list will be created for future permanent full or part time and temporary full or part time vacancies. 

To be eligible for employment in these roles you must be: an Australian Citizen, or a permanent resident of Australia, or a New Zealand citizen with a current New Zealand Passport, or a citizen of another country with an appropriate visa that allows you to work in Australia.
