Tamworth Clinic 468 is a dynamic team supported by a Clinical Nurse Consultant in HIV and Sexual Health and experienced Medical Practitioners. It is a 4-day-a-week service Monday – Thursday and is part of the three sexual health services for our area (Pacific Clinic – Newcastle, Tamworth, and Taree Sexual Health Clinic).

About the role:

This position is based at Tamworth Community Health Centre. Tamworth Clinic 468 is a busy Sexual Health Clinic involved with testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections (STIs), HIV and hepatitis B & C, information and advice on sexual health and STIs, HIV treatment, care, and support, counselling on sexual health and HIV related issues, hepatitis A and B vaccination provided free to those most at risk, and pre and post-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP and PEP) for people at high risk of contracting HIV.
  • Provide asymptomatic STI screening/PrEP screening to patients attending nurse-led clinics
  • Provide care to HIV-positive patients attending the clinic
  • Provide treatments for STIs
  • Refer to/consult with medical staff as per clinic protocols
  • Manage symptomatic patients as per delegation of clinical practice
  • Triage patients wishing to access the service and refer appropriately
  • Prioritise patients to facilitate patient flow through the clinic
  • Provide safe sex information/harm minimisation
  • Medication administration as per nurse medication protocols/medication standing orders
  • You will be supported by an on-site Clinical Nurse Consultant and Medical Practitioner and be supported by being part of the wider Sexual Health Services offered by our area
  • All sites are part of weekly education sessions and staff can partake in online and face-to-face learning opportunities

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA

About you:
  • You have some experience working with STI/HIV priority populations, women’s health, viral hepatology, or other relevant services
  • You have the ability to understand and maintain patient confidentiality
  • You are passionate about working with a client for optimal health outcomes
  • You possess venepuncture skills or a willingness to undertake training and education in same
