About us:

John Hunter Children’s Hospital (JHCH) is part of The Children, Young People and Families Directorate of Hunter New England Local Health District. It is one of three tertiary children’s hospitals in NSW, the only one situated outside of a capital city. JHCH is made up of four wards, a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Outpatients Department, school room, and Oncology day stay unit.

About the job:

  • We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Dietitian to join our Paediatric and Immunology Multidisciplinary Allergy Team at John Hunter Children’s Hospital. Based in Newcastle and covering clinics across the Hunter New England Local Health District including outreach clinics to Tamworth, Taree, and Coffs Harbour.

  • The Clinical Dietitian would be responsible for the provision of expert Clinical Nutrition advice and education to patients, their families and carers attending the Paediatric Immunology Service. The position will also have the responsibility to support and act as a consultant on matters pertaining to Paediatric Dietetics and Immunology to the Paediatric Immunology Unit and other Dietitians throughout the Hunter New England Local Health District and ensure continuity of care of patients returning to local services for follow up and support.

  • In this role you will be involved in student training, with links to the University of Newcastle, as well as quality improvement and research.

  • The successful candidate will be supported to actively engage in clinical supervision, as well as other professional development activities.

Our successful candidate will possess the following:

  • Must hold a bachelor or post graduate degree in nutrition and dietetics that provides eligibility for full membership of the Dietitians Association of Australia, or other qualification deemed equivalent by the employer.

  • The successful candidate will be skilled in Paediatric Nutrition and infant feeding, work well independently as well as part of a specialised Multidisciplinary Team, and have good organisational and computer skills.

  • This is a Level 3 position. However, if there are no appropriate Level 3 applicants, applications from Level 2 will be considered. The selection criteria reflects the requirements for a Level 3 applicant. Responses from Level 2 applicants need to demonstrate their level of competence with regard to the same criteria and their ability to work towards Level 3. The expected performance of the incumbent will be commensurate with his/her years of experience and current level at commencement of appointment. The incumbent will work towards meeting the criteria for Level 3.
