About the Job

The Soil Conservation Service (SCS) is looking for a Field Environmental Officer with a genuine interest in building a career in the construction sector to join the team and work on environmentally significant projects.

This position is suited to someone with experience in the construction industry, ideally within a Civil construction area with heavy plant operation experience (such as dozer, excavator, skid steer, roller, truck).

Working with us will give you a broad exposure to how we solve complex natural resource management problems including erosion control, conservation earthworks, contaminated sites, derelict mines, bushfire mitigation works and emergency response, access trails for firefighting, on farm water supplies and river restoration.

You also be part of a team to assist senior staff to investigate, develop and scope solutions for natural resource management issues.

To do this you will:

  • Work in a supportive team environment setting to deliver major environmental and civil construction projects.
  • Responsibilities include, planning and scheduling onsite work, operating heavy plant, supervising sub-contractors, and ensuring all aspects of worksite WHS, environmental and quality are implemented.
  • Ensure projects are implemented within the framework of our accredited Integrated Management System (IMS).
  • Professionally represent and promote the SCS with your onsite presence and interactions with clients and the public.

There are practical adjustments we can make to the role for the right candidate however, to be successful in the role you will need:

  • A passion for the environment and an interest in working on natural resource management projects
  • A willingness to undertake field-based work such as general labouring, heavy plant operation & construction works

  • Demonstrated experience and capability in operating heavy plant in a range of civil and conservation earthworks job sites.
  • A current drivers licence (minimum Class C)
