About us

Transport for NSW (TfNSW) is the lead agency of the NSW Transport cluster. Our role is to lead the development of a safe, efficient, integrated transport system that keeps people and goods moving, connects communities and shapes the future of our cities, centres and regions. We work with several government agencies to coordinate metro, train, bus, ferry, light rail, road and maritime services, always keeping the safety and comfort of our customers at the heart of what we do.


About the team

The Safety, Environment and Regulation (SER) division leads policy, strategy, standards, advice and support across safety, environment, sustainability, asset management and regulatory outcomes for customers, community and our people (including contractors). SER provides ‘centres of excellence’ with a critical mass of expertise to support line accountability, facilitate consistency and provide assurance across the transport. It also delivers a range of regulatory programs, across transport. It also delivers a range of regulatory programs.


The opportunity

The Environment & Sustainability Regional Assets and Operations Team, West, within SER is accountable for Environment & Sustainability policy, practice and support to programs, projects and operations for an extensive construction and operational maintenance program in region West. The team provides the environmental leadership, strategic direction and technical guidance, enables innovation and effective solutions across all environment and sustainability outcomes for our customers, people and the community. Reporting to the Environment and Sustainability Senior Manager, you’ll provide technical advice and expertise to our construction and maintenance teams, delivery partners, environment regulatory agencies and the community.

This role is a permanent role and is based in West region – Dubbo or Orange. The role will require you to operate in an autonomous manner in remote areas and will involve consecutive overnight travel to remote and isolated areas.

You will be responsible for providing expert advice and assistance to staff and TfNSW contractors on a range of environmental management, compliance, planning and assessment requirements for TfNSW activities to achieve required Government environmental outcomes and meet the expectations of the community of NSW.

Depending on base location, regional allowances may include additional leave. Generous Travel Allowances are claimable as per award.


About you

You have experience in planning or providing technical advice with regard to Major Infrastructure environmental impact assessments, environmental management and/or sustainability. You’ll have demonstrated experience applying your knowledge of environmental legislation, policy and standards on the development and delivery of infrastructure.

With a tertiary qualification in an environmental, natural resource, planning, environmental engineering or similar discipline, or equivalent professional experience. You will have experience in managing stakeholders and the ability to prioritise your work under pressure. You shall need to demonstrate experience in working on major significant Infrastructure and managing others.
