Bathurst Evangelical Church (BE)

Bathurst Evangelical Church (BE)
Location: Bathurst, NSW
Date advertised: 8th April 2024
Job Type: Full time
Closing Date: Open until filled

Bathurst Evangelical Church is seeking a suitably qualified person, with appropriate character and pastoral gifts, to serve as the full-time Senior Pastor, replacing the current Senior Pastor who is retiring.

Bathurst is a growing regional city of approximately 40,000, about 200 km west of the centre of Sydney. More information on Bathurst can be found here.

Since its establishment in 1997, BE has been active in proclaiming and teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ.

BE has been a member of the Fellowship of Independent Evangelical Churches (FIEC) almost since the FIEC’s formation, and places a high value on the being part of the fellowship.

BE consists of people of varied ages and ethnic backgrounds. It is led by a team of overseers and the Senior Pastor, who together make up the Church Council. Currently the Senior Pastor is the only member of staff (full-time remuneration). All other leaders act in a voluntary capacity.

Theologically, BE is ‘reformed and evangelical’, and hence we believe that the Bible is God’s Word, which is to be learned from and lived by. We see ourselves as a local gathering of the ‘body of Christ’ (1 Cor 12). Our church mission statement, based on Colossians 1.28, is ‘Proclaiming Christ & Growing in Christ’, and by this our aim (or vision) is to grow the Kingdom of God through BE.

BE has been relatively static in size for some time. However, over the last two years, as we have become more missional in outlook and have begun to apply Reach Australia principles, we have seen a couple of conversions and other green shoots of gospel growth.

More information about BE can be found on the website

Mark Sutton has been the Senior Pastor at BE since 2012. However, Mark is retiring in June 2024, and so BE is looking to replace him.

Both prior to, and following his retirement, Mark is happy to assist with more information about BE and the Senior Pastor position, as well as transitioning into the role.

A job description, together with a list of essential and desirable qualifications can be found here.
