What you will be doing:

An exciting opportunity awaits for a Health Information Release Officer / Clinical Coder to join the team at Lithgow Hospital on a Permanent Part Time basis.

The Health Information Release Officer / Clinical Coder is responsible for the:

  • Management of the medico legal / information release functions across Lithgow / Portland Health Services, including auditing, statistics, and KPIs.
  • Supervision of record keeping and record control functions of the Health Information and Record Service.
  • Accurate assignment of clinical codes to inpatient episodes of care for Lithgow / Portland Health Services.

Providing Health Information advice and assistance (ROI) to community Health Services and Lithgow Private Hospital.

Providing an efficient, prompt and customer focused medical record services that provides accurate information for the ongoing health care of clients.

Developing and maintain effective communication with service departments and partners

Participating as a member of the NBMLHD Health Information Best Practice Group and other relevant committees and working parties, as directed.

A NSW Health agency may require further information about the medical contraindication (including but not limited to an Immunisation Medical Exemption form – IM011 form).

Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.

Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified and must not exceed the duration or conditions associated with the current visa.

Selection Criteria to be addressed: * Tertiary qualifications Health Information management or equivalent, or a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a Health Information and Records Area.

  • High level of oral and written communication and interpersonal skills with a well-developed organisational ability.
  • Proven current knowledge of Medico-legal / Health Information Release and Medical Record keeping policies, procedures and legislation.
  • Ability to provide input, interpret, monitor and evaluate policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Satisfactory completion of a recognised Australian Clinical Coding course and Medical Terminology course with sound knowledge and practical experience of the ACCD Australian
  • Proven experience with auditing and data submission in a health environment.
  • Ability to meet pre-determined targets and deadlines.
  • Ability to meet the physical and psychological requirements of the position.
