About the Position

The Senior Payroll Specialist will focus on accurate and timelycompletion of the payroll function and associated tasks. Thisposition will drive change, improve current processes and implementbest practice in line with the strategic direction of theorganisation. The position will ensure all relevant payroll data isaccurate, compliant with relevant industrial instruments andprepared for processing on a fortnightly basis in a timely manner.The position involves:

  • Overseeing the fortnightly payroll for over 1400 employeesworking in a 24/7 environment
  • Ensure that there is timely and accurate preparation of allpayroll data for processing, ensuring relevant statutorydocumentation and payments are completed (superannuation, payrolltax, Work Cover and PAYG etc)
  • Manage payroll systems to ensure that all information andrecords are up to date and maintained in accordance with statutoryrequirements
  • Support and/or lead projects and initiatives of KCS and providesubject matter expertise on matters relating to payrolllegislation, award and contract interpretation, payroll practices,systems and system integrations where needed.
  • Identifying any discrepancies between system data (payroll, HRand Time and Attendance) and resolving any matters in a timelymanner
  • Lead the development of systems and payroll processes with thepayroll manager
  • The creation, documentation and maintenance of user guides andother training manuals relating to payroll systems andpractices
  • Act as first point of contact for payroll queries and liaisewith relevant departments to answer queries in appropriatetimeframes
  • Assist with various projects relating to finance and payroll asrequired
  • Engage with various departments on payroll related matters suchas HR, Workers Compensation/Return to Work and Systems.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in a similar positioncoordinating/processing payroll for a medium to largeorganisation
  • Previous experience using KeyPay is highly regarded
  • Comprehensive knowledge and ability to interpret Modern Awardsand Enterprise Agreements (4 active awards/agreements in operationat KCS)
  • Significant knowledge of relevant legislative and regulatoryenvironment for areas of business responsibility i.e.Superannuation, Workers Compensation, PAYG tax and otherlegislative agencies
  • Strong administration and written communication skills withexcellent attention to detail and passion for delivering work to ahigh standard
  • Demonstrated drive and initiative, with a proactive approach towork with the ability to work collaboratively and co-ordinateinformation flows across multiple departments
  • Experience in working with and maintaining various platformsthat rely on the same data
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Suite (Office Word, Excel,Outlook, SharePoint, Teams)
  • Customer focused approach and resilient to changingenvironments
  • Strong communication style, verbal and written
  • Australian Drivers Licence
  • Ability to pass a National Criminal History Check
