About the role

We are seeking a Safety and Wellbeing Manager to join the People team at Hume Bank.

Reporting to the Chief People Officer, the Safety and Wellbeing Manager is responsible for the management of the health and safety function at Hume Bank, including wellbeing, workplace safety, health and injury management.

Working collaboratively across the business, the Safety and Wellbeing Manager is accountable for developing, implementing and promoting safety strategies and safe work practices. This role works closely with business stakeholders and supports identified Officers in understanding their duties and responsibilities in relation to WHS matters. The role manages key third-party relationships with insurance agencies, rehabilitation providers and other relevant parties as required.

The Safety and Wellbeing Manager is also responsible for ensuring that the provision of WHS services is aligned with legislative requirements, regulations and best practice.

This is a part-time permanent position, of 30 hours per week, based at our Head Office in Albury, NSW. Flexible working arrangements, such as Working from Home are available when residing in the Albury-Wodonga area.

What you can expect

  • Develop and implement the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Strategy to build on our positive WHS culture
  • Continuously improve on safety and wellbeing performance, consistent with contemporary practice, current research and legislative requirements.
  • Conduct WHS audits, investigations and risk assessments, and ensure that appropriate risk identification, assessment and control measures are in place.
  • Oversee the creation and maintenance of policies and procedures, ensuring they meet all relevant legislative and regulatory requirements and standards and can be applied practically.
  • Manage and respond to WHS-reported incidents and Risk Assessments, whilst also supporting WorkCover and Return to Work programs 
  • Coordinate Health and Wellbeing initiatives to enhance the employee experience, with consideration of physical, mental, social, and environmental factors.


About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Experience in the management of Work, Health and Safety operations within a fast paced customer-focused organisation, including injury management (preferred)
  • Knowledge and understanding of Work Health and Safety legislation in Victoria and New South Wales
  • Experience in supporting health and wellbeing programs and initiatives
  • Strong communication skills to support the delivery of messages in written and verbal styles
  • A positive and enthusiastic can-do attitude, with the ability to deliver operational outcomes

Our process

  • Once the role is closed, we review all applications against the requirements, creating a shortlist for further review.
  • If your application is successful, you may receive an initial screening call to further assess your suitability, before being invited to an interview.
  • We conduct two rounds of interviews, with the first interview being held with the supervisor and a member of our People Team. You may be invited back to a shorter second-round interview with the head of the department.
  • The final stage is to complete some quick compliance checks, before (hopefully) receiving an offer.
